The Recipe for the Saints’ Winning Streak is Filled with Plenty of Wingstop

For the past eight games, there’s been the same meal that’s coincided with victory for the New Orleans Saints’ defensive line.

Since losing in Week 1, the Saints’ big men have chowed down at Wingstop every week before feasting on the competition, mostly recently racking up four sacks in the 51-14 road rout at the Cincinnati Bengals.

Each week, a Saints rookie buys wings for the entire defensive line.

The superstition for the defensive line is to eat at the same restaurant until a loss. They ate at Buffalo Wild Wings before the lone loss of the season, made the switch to Wingstop after and haven’t looked back since according to NOLA.com.

The massive weekly order according to a Wingstop employee includes: 400 wings (150 lemon pepper, 50 garlic parmesan, 50 BBQ, 50 Louisiana rub), 100 boneless wings (50 BBQ, 50 Louisiana rub) along with loads of fries, ranch, and blue cheese.

The tab totals nearly $400 each time and the rest of the Saints from all position groups are welcome to dig in.

The defensive line puts in extra effort in order to splurge on the treat.

“I purposely work out Thursday morning, so I don’t have to work out Thursday afternoon, so I can come in here and shower and go straight to wings,” Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins said to NOLA.com. “That’s how important it is.”

The good fortune is bringing positive vibes to the locker room.

“I’m really huge on routine, so if we’re having success with whatever we did the previous week, then we’re going to keep doing the same thing,” Defensive end Alex Okafor said.

For the sake of Who Dat Nation, here’s to the Saints eating Wingstop all the way to a Super Bowl parade.

“Hopefully, we eat Wingstop all the way to Atlanta in February,” Rankins said to NOLA.com.
