The Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA Prep Classic will last three days and continues with Day 2 on Friday, Dec. 7.
Here’s a breakdown of Day 2:
12:00 Welsh vs Amite
Day 2 begins with Welsh facing Amite in the Class 2A championship.
Despite a 12-2 record, Welsh comes into this match a pretty heavy underdog. However, that shouldn’t bother them at all. Welsh entered the playoffs as the No. 5 seed in the 2A playoffs and defeated top-seeded Many in the semifinals, 28-21.
Amite won a rematch with Ferriday in its semifinal game, 44-20. Amite is going for its third title in program history, but if it beats Welsh, it would be the school’s first football championship in more than a decade.
3:30 University Lab vs St. Thomas More
In the Division II Championship Game, University Lab will try to defend its title against St. Thomas More. University Lab went 14-0 last year and enters this week at 12-0.
But St. Thomas More is no slouch. They earned the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and come into the title battle with a 11-1 mark. In the semifinals last week, St. Thomas More knocked off No. 2 seed St. Charles Catholic, 49-7.
7:00 Sterlington vs Eunice
In the final game of Day 2, Sterlington will square off against Eunice in the Class 3A championship. As the No. 4 seed, Sterlington defeated No. 1 seed Iota, 21-12, in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, Eunice earned a shutout with a 19-0 victory against Kaplan last week.
In four playoff games, Eunice has allowed just 38 points.
Players to Watch
DT Ishmael Sopsher – Amite
In total, 31 of Louisiana’s Top 100 prospects from the 2019 recruiting class will play in one of the nine state championship games this weekend. But at No. 2 in the state, Sopsher is the highest ranked of them all.
A 5-star prospect, Sopsher is also the seventh-best overall recruit across the entire country based on the 247Sports composite rankings. He has reportedly received offers from more than 20 schools, including from all the top football programs in the nation.
OLB Bryton Constantin – University Lab

WR Devonta Lee – Amite
University Lab may have more players in the Louisiana Top 100 for the upcoming class, but Amite has the most in the Top Eight with two. Listed as an athlete, Lee sits at No. 7 in the state and No. 127 overall in the country.
He has reportedly received offers from 18 schools, 11 of which are from the SEC. That includes some of the top SEC programs such as Alabama, LSU, Florida and Auburn.
Some other players to watch from Amite are quarterback Amani Gilmore & wide receiver Kyle Maxwell.
ILB Christian Harris – University Lab
For fans only interested in watching the top 2019 talent from this state, Day 2 is definitely the day to watch. Harris is the fourth Top 10 prospect and ninth recruit ranked in the Louisiana Top 50 from the upcoming class that will be playing on Friday.
On the other two days combined, only one player from the Top 10 will be on the field.
Harris is a 4-star prospect and the No. 9 player in the state. He de-committed from Texas A&M and committed to Alabama last week.

Other players to watch from University Lab include athlete Makiya Tongue, cornerback Jordan Clark, running back Mike Hollins, offensive tackle Dylan Rathcke and quarterback John Gordon.
WR Da’Ren Zeno – Welsh
A 3-star wideout, Zeno is the No. 80 Louisiana player in the 2019 class. He has received some interest from TCU, Houston and Louisiana Lafayette.
QB Caleb Holstein – St. Thomas More
The junior signal caller is experiencing an incredible season, as he’s thrown for 3,448 yards, 42 touchdowns and just four interceptions. If St. Thomas More is going to hand University Lab its first loss in two years, Holstein must be a big reason why.
RB Dallas Reagor – Sterlington
He did some spectacular things to lead Sterlington to a 12-2 mark this season. Reagor has rushed for more than 200 yards in a game five times and tallied more than 2,000 rushing yards this season.
RB Avrey Lee – Eunice
In addition to rushing for 135 yards and a score in the semifinal victory against Kaplan, Lee threw for two touchdowns in the 19-0 win.
