The New Orleans Saints (9-1) easily defeated the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles 48-7 to extend their winning streak to nine games.
Drew Brees completed 22 of his 30 passes for 363 yards and four touchdowns. Brees spread the wealth by throwing touchdown passes to four different Saints (Tre’Quan Smith, Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, Austin Carr).
Smith led the Saints with 10 receptions for 157 yards. Thomas added 92 receiving yards.
Kamara totaled 108 yards (71 rushing, 37 receiving).
The electric Saints offense has scored at least 45 points in the last three games.
The Saints are atop the NFC South and are one of three NFL teams with 9-1 records. The other two (Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs) will square off this week on Monday Night Football.
The stingy Saints defense allowed just 196 yards along with three interceptions and three sacks against the Eagles (4-6).
Chris Banjo recorded two interceptions and Marshon Lattimore grabbed the other one. Craig Robertson, Alex Okafor and Sheldon Rankins each had a sack.
Afterwards, Brees spoke with CST’s Mike Nabors about the Saints’ fourth straight double-digit victory.
“It’s great when you can come out and feel like you’re hitting on all cylinders: offensively, running the ball, throwing the ball, defensively coming up with the stops that we did,” Brees said. “Just playing with the emotion that they did. We can feel that and our fans felt it playing here in the dome against the defending Super Bowl champs.”
Next up is a primetime Thanksgiving matchup vs. the division rival Atlanta Falcons (4-6) from the Superdome.
