The New Orleans Saints defeated the Atlanta Falcons 43-37 in an overtime thriller on Sunday thanks once again to the heroics of future Hall of Famer Drew Brees whose spin move sent two Falcons to the turf and the game into overtime.
After the game, Drew was basking in the victory over the Falcons.
“It’s a huge win. Huge team win. We knew what this game was going to be like. It’s always a back and forth slugfest, an all day sucker with these guys. They’re a heck of a football team and we know how explosive they are on offense. They have the ability to score and score they did. We had to keep pace with them and then when we had to make plays to win, we get a touchdown there to tie it, defense comes out stops them and sends it to OT and then we won the toss it just felt like, ‘Alright guys, one play at a time. Let’s seize the momentum, continue to convert first downs, wear them down and go down and end this game right here right now.”
Somewhat lost in all the action on the field was Brees eclipsing the NFL mark for career completions in the first quarter. After the victory, Brees was grateful for everyone who made the accomplishment possible.
“I’m just very grateful. Makes me think of all the hands that have caught those passes and all the guys that blocked and were a huge part of that. There are so many people who were a huge part of that. The entire Saints organization is a huge part of that. Really belongs to all of them.”
