LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team fell 9-1 in the rubber game against Georgia Southern on Sunday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park as the Cajuns have dropped back-to-back series for the first time since 2015.

"We've been hit with some adversity, so now we have to try and work through it," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "This is where hopefully your leadership kicks in. The guys are going to have to pull together instead of pulling apart. This game can beat you down and wear you down.

"We had good pitching and defense all the way until the eighth inning, and then we let the game get away from us. We needed to stay in the 3-1 ballgame so that our hitters have a chance. We aren't a team that can give up a ton of runs. We have to keep the score down in order for us to be successful."

The Ragin' Cajuns (28-19-1, 14-9-1 Sun Belt) were outhit 10-4 in the game by the Eagles (32-16, 15-9 Sun Belt) as eight of the nine starters in the Georgia Southern lineup posted at least one hit.

Sophomore Hogan Harris (3-2) suffered his second loss of the season despite posting his second quality start of the year. Harris limited the Eagles to three runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. The Lafayette, La., native held the Eagles hitless over his final five frames allowing just one runner to reach scoring position during that span.

Seth Shuman (5-0) earned the victory for Georgia Southern allowing just one run on four hits in 7.2 innings of work. Shuman walked three and struck out five in the outing.

The Eagles grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first on a two-run, opposite field home run to left by Ryan Cleveland.

Cal Baker extended the Georgia Southern lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning on a solo home run to left field.

Louisiana got on the board in the bottom half of the second when Brad Antchak drove a two-out, solo homer down the line in right for his first home run of the season to make the score 3-1.

After five scoreless frames, the Eagles put the game away in the top of the eighth scoring six runs on six hits including three home runs to make the final 9-1.

The Cajuns continue their eight-game homestand next week with a 6 p.m. contest on Tuesday at Russo Park against in-state rival Louisiana Tech. Following the game with the Bulldogs, Louisiana will host McNeese on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the squad's final non-conference matchup of the year.
