HOUSTON – Tulane earned a split decision in the final day of the Houston Baptist Invitational, finishing the weekend with a 3-1 record after a victory over the hosting Huskies and a close loss to No. 7 LSU. With one regular-season tournament remaining before conference championships, the Green Wave now sit at 18-9 on the year and 3-8 against Coastal Collegiate Sports Association opponents.

"Overall, we played very good volleyball again this weekend, and our results show that. Today against LSU we played our best volleyball of the season and positioned ourselves for an opportunity to defeat one of the country's best teams. I'm proud of the players' performance and poise in that match. Just as importantly, we maintained a high level of play hours later against Houston Baptist, a good team that is well coached. It was a terrific effort by the players to come back out and bring a consistent effort to close out the invitational."

Tulane and LSU battled to the end in their second and final match-up of the regular season, but it was the Tigers that emerged victorious as the Green Wave dropped a close 3-2 contest to open day two in Houston.

Sarah Strasner and Anna Chin started Tulane off in the win column, sweeping LSU's No. 5 pair on scores of 21-17 and 24-22, but the Tigers evened up the dual on court four as Annie Shurtz and Tarin Mergener fell in straight sets.

After the court-four victory, LSU would go on to take the 2-1 lead on court three. Dropping the first set 9-21, Hannah Holmes and Briana Correa battled back to pick up the second outing 22-20, but the pair fell 15-11 in the third to take the match loss.

Tulane would bounce back in the second flight, with Kaylie McHugh and Tea Juric picking up their third victory of the weekend in a 2-1 final over LSU's No. 2 pair of Emmy Allen and Lilly Kessler.

Tied at two matches apiece, Tulane's No. 1 duo of Madeline Mertz and Lan Nguyen played close to the Tigers but ultimately fell in back-to-back sets on scores of 17-21 and 19-21 as LSU sealed the 3-2 conference win.

The Green Wave picked up their third win of the weekend on Sunday afternoon, coming away with a victory over Houston Baptist on a score of 4-1. Tulane downed its opposition in straight sets on three courts for its second victory over the Huskies this year.

Tulane started out strong on courts four and five, as No. 5 pair Anna Chin and Christina McAfee picked up a match sweep in their first outing as a duo this year. Tulane's court four pairing of Hannah Holmes and Sarah Strasner also completed a sweep of their opponents, defeating the Huskies on scores of 21-11 and 21-18.

Court three sealed Tulane's third win of the weekend, as Annie Shurtz and Tarin Mergener bounced back from a set-one loss to come away with a 2-1 victory, giving Tulane a 3-0 lead in the dual.

On court two, Tea Juric and Kaylie McHugh finished the weekend going 4-0, defeating HBU's No. 2 pair on identical scores of 21-14 for their 22nd duals win of the season.

With a 4-0 lead over HBU, Mertz and Nguyen came within points of the Huskies' No. 1 duo on both occasions but fell 0-2 to Jessica Wooten and Aeriel Horton, as Tulane ended the day on a 4-1 win.

The Green Wave will make their second trip to South Carolina next weekend, heading to the University of South Carolina's Palmetto Invitational on April 14-15. In Columbia, Tulane will face four familiar foes, including three CCSA opponents.
