NEW ORLEANS – Tulane Athletics and St. Augustine High School announce today that Yulman Stadium is set to serve as the venue for the Purple Knights' football game against De La Salle High School on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.

The two New Orleans area rivals meet in the first high school football game to be played on the Benson Field turf since Yulman Stadium became the home of the Green Wave football program beginning with the 2014 season.

"We are excited to open Yulman Stadium to high school football, and take particular pleasure in welcoming St. Augustine and De La Salle as the first game," said Troy Dannen, Ben Weiner Director of Athletics at Tulane. "Part of the vision when the stadium was first contemplated was the ability to engage and serve the community in new ways. Today's announcement is a significant step in expanding that engagement. We expect further announcements in the future about additional games involving local high schools as this high school series commences."

"The St. Augustine community is honored for this opportunity to host our football game vs De La Salle in beautiful Yulman Stadium on the Tulane University campus for many reasons. First, the facility is a world-class stadium that will provide our student-athletes and loyal fans with an unforgettable sporting experience," said Dr. Kenneth A. St. Charles, President and CEO at St. Augustine High School. "Additionally, this game allows our school to continue to partner with Tulane, which will provide unlimited, dynamic opportunities for our students as they prepare for college."

This game will mark the first high school game on the Uptown campus since Nov. 3, 1979, when Chalmette High School defeated Jesuit High School 23-9 in a New Orleans Catholic League matchup in the final game played at historic Tulane Stadium. Saint Augustine and De La Salle were members of the New Orleans Catholic League together from 1967, when Cavaliers joined the league, until 2003.

"We are excited to play one of our home games at Yulman Stadium," said Barret Rey, Director of Athletics at St. Augustine. "This is going to be a great experience for our players, students, and parents. It is an unbelievable venue and we couldn't be happier."
