BATON ROUGE, La. — Junior pitcher Cam Sanders matched his career-high in strikeouts with eight and Zach Watson went 3-for-5 with two runs and a RBI as the No. 13 LSU defeated Southern, 8-2, Tuesday night in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

With the win, LSU improves to 9-4 on the season while Southern drops to 4-8.
LSU continues its midweek slate with a game at UL-Lafayette at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised by Cox Sports Television and will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network, including 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge.
Sanders (1-0) earned the first win of his LSU career after firing 5.1 innings. The junior right-hander matched his career-high strikeouts with eight and limited Southern to two runs on two hits and walked two.
Sophomore Todd Peterson worked the final 3.2 innings for the Tigers and earned his first save of the season after shutting out the Jaguars and limiting them to three hits. The right-hander also struck out six.
