LAFAYETTE, La. – The second-seeded Louisiana baseball team couldn’t overcome a three-run fifth inning by third-seeded Troy as the Ragin’ Cajuns fell 10-1 in a winner’s bracket contest late Thursday night at the Sun Belt Conference tournament hosted at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field at Russo Park.

The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Ragin’ Cajuns (34-24) who were outhit 13-4 in the contest.

Junior Hogan Harris was tagged with his second loss of the season after surrendering four runs on six hits in 5.0 innings of work. Harris struck out seven but allowed seven free passes with three walks and four hit batters.

Senior Andrew Crane notched the victory for the Trojans (40-18) limiting the Cajuns to one run on four hits with 10 strikeouts in 8.0 innings.

LEADING THE CAJUNS

Junior Daniel Lahare extended his hit streak to 19 games going 2-for-4 on the night, while freshman Hayden Cantrelle reached twice in the game with two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Troy got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-out flare single to right field by Chase Smart.

Louisiana evened the contest at 1-all in the bottom half of the second on a Zach Lafleur RBI double down the right field line.

The Trojans regained the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-out single to right field by Brody Binder. In the next at bat, Sadler Goodwin drove a two-run triple to right center to extend the lead to 4-1.

Troy put the game out of reach in the top of the eighth plating five runs on four hits to make the score 9-1. A two-out grand slam to left center by Goodwin highlighted the scoring in the inning.

The Trojans tacked on the final run of the game in the eighth on a two-out RBI double by Joey Denison.

UP NEXT

Louisiana will face sixth-seeded Texas State in an elimination game on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Russo Park. Fans can listen to the game on News Talk 96.5-FM with Jay Walker and Brad Topham on the call.
