LAFAYETTE – 21st-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball, host of the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Tournament, is scheduled to begin play in the event on Thursday, May 10 at 12:30 p.m. at Lamson Park.
The Sun Belt Conference office unveiled the official tournament bracket on Sunday following the completion of regular season play. The tournament is scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, May 9-12 with the winner claiming the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
All games of the championship are set for exclusive coverage on ESPN+. Ragin’ Cajuns games will also air on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM in the Acadiana region and worldwide on the 1420 app.
Louisiana (36-13, 21-6 Sun Belt) is the tournament’s No. 2 seed and has earned a bye from opening day action on Wednesday, May 9.
The Ragin’ Cajuns opponent for Thursday’s contest will be determined by results on Wednesday. Possible opponents include Georgia State, South Alabama and Georgia Southern.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament format combines single and double-elimination play. Two single elimination first round games on Wednesday precede the start of double elimination play between the remaining six teams.
The two teams to advance from double-elimination play will compete in a single-elimination championship game on Saturday, May 12 at 1 p.m.
Louisiana has claimed the title 14 times in the 18-year history of the SBC Tournament and sports an all-time record of 56-8 in the event. The Ragin’ Cajuns are the two-time defending champions, having won the event in 2016 in Mobile, Ala., and 2017 in Troy, Ala.
